Introducing the first weekly feature on our fair blog, "Presenting: Porn Parody Profile" where the blog features the trailer (don't worry, they're not pornographic) from a pornographic a parody of a popular television show. I got the idea of this feature when I stumbled across Thomas Lennon's (of The State and Reno 911 fame) twitter account this morning and saw a posting for his review of the Reno 9111 XXX Parody on Funny or Die (definitely, NOT safe for work).
This discovery lead me down the rabbit hole to find what other shows had been parodied, and I was shocked to see that there were many, many more. Thus, without further adieu, I present the first trailer in our journey through the porno parody world:
The first element of the trailer that really caught my attention was the theme song. Dangerously close to the Rembrandts' "I'll Be There for You," the New Sensations (maybe an INXS reference?) crew creates a parody that even Weird Al would be proud of. With lines like: "It's Friends the 'triple x' parody" and "Everybody gets laid" repeated over and over, you can't help but nod along and enjoy the tune. Additionally, the recreation of the iconic fountain sequence in the introduction is surprisingly well produced. I am shocked by the attention to detail that this comparatively low budget production is able to achieve.
We're then treated to snippets of the movie showing that yes, there actually is a plot! And though the characters' names are changed (Sandler and Moanica are mentioned in the trailer), it appears that this movie could take place within the existing continuity of Friends the show. Though Moanica seems dead-set that Sandler not have a bachelor party, the Rachel and Phoebe characters plan to throw Moanica a bachelorette party. Thus, "Ross" and "Joey" are going to throw one for Sandler in retaliation. Having put all of that down on paper, I can't say its too much different from a regular episode of friends. Maybe have a scene where you cut to the naked guy and naked girl that the gang is always watching from Moanica's apartment, and you're set.
Before going, I must say that casting of the characters seems pretty spot on as well. Joey, in particular, looks like he could have filled in for Matt Leblanc (and probably done a better job). Ross has that certain something that makes you want to punch him in the face. And the woman playing Phoebe totally pulls off the spacey character; and Moanica does a solid job channeling Courtney Cox's shrill voice.
Based solely on the trailer, I'm going to give the movie 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. Please leave any feedback if you've seen the full movie and have anything else to add.
Next week: Seinfeld.
